2020年度の研究は豊子愷（1898-1975）の中期の段階の芸術論を考察した。これは本研究課題にとって重要な位置を占める。本研究で得られた成果は、博士論文「豊子愷の芸術論における「気韻生動」概念の現代的意義――カンディンスキーの抽象芸術論との交渉において」にまとめられた。博士論文は20世紀20、30年代の中国で活躍した豊子愷が大正期の日本の学者たちによる東西の芸術比較論を介して、カンディンスキー（Wassily Kandinsky, 1866-1944）の抽象芸術論を受容し、それを中国画論と融合させた上で独自の仕方で「気韻生動」概念を解釈したことを明らかにするものである。本論文は、カンディンスキーの抽象芸術論と、謝赫によって提起された中国画論の最も重要な概念の一つである「気韻生動」概念に注目し、それらを最初に結びつけたアーサー・エディ（Arthur J. Eddy, 1859-1920）から園頼三（1891-1973）、そして豊子愷にいたるカンディンスキー受容の系譜を辿り、豊子愷の現代的な「気韻生動」概念がカンディンスキーとの関わりにおいて形成されていく過程を明らかにした。本論を通して、西洋の思想文化が東洋に輸入される中で、中国の内部において生じた伝統文化の自覚と変貌が中国現代美学を発生させた過程を明確にした。グローバリゼーションとローカライゼーションの交叉する今日において、伝統文化の再評価と伝承、アイデンティティの認識といった課題はますます大きな意味合いを獲得している。東西の理論の交渉のうちに自らの芸術論を打ち立てた豊子愷の理論的軌跡は、こうした課題に答える一つの手がかりを与えてくれるように思われる。
