2020年度の大半はルワンダに滞在し、現地調査に従事した。COVID-19パンデミックの影響は少なくなかったが、以下に述べる発見をした。先行研究で言及されるようなアニミズム的なコスモロジーは現在においては老人の間においてもほとんど見られないが、音楽は依然トゥワらしさが保持されている場及び行為として盛んであり、どういった状況で、参加者を誰として、どういった楽曲が、どういったリズムやメロディで、どうやって始まるか、終わるかに注目して集計した。また滞在調査をする中で明らかになったのが暴力の遍在である。現在、狩猟採集を禁じられているトゥワの主な生計の手段が畑泥棒であることを明らかにした。こうしたトゥワのことを快く思わない隣人他民族は少なくない。その結果、捕まれば起訴、投獄に至ることもあり、トゥワコミュニティに成人男性がほとんどいないのは刑務所に入っているからである。コミュニティ内での暴力も頻発しており、村で暮らす女性たち、若い男たちは毎晩飲んで歌って喧嘩する。喧嘩にはナタや棍棒、石が動員され、病院での治療を必要とするような怪我人が週に1人は出る。先行研究では男性による女性への家庭内暴力についての記述はあったが、上記のような日常的暴力への言及は皆無であり、新発見といえる。聞き取り調査によると、喧嘩は狩猟採集時代からの慣習であり、音楽とともにトゥワの文化であるとされる。アフリカの狩猟採集民研究の文脈においては、狩猟採集民は平和で平等的なハームレスピープルという見解が主流であり、上記のようなトゥワのあり方は例外的であり、細かく精査、分析し、音楽と暴力を並行に論じることで研究史に一石を投じることができると考えている。「COVID-19と先住民」研究会での発表も好評をもって迎えられ、また撮影した映像に関しても山形ドキュメンタリー道場という山形国際映画祭の関連するラボに選抜された。
