本研究の目的は、17世紀ボローニャ派の画家ジョヴァンニ・フランチェスコ・バルビエーリ、通称グエルチーノ研究において、いまだ蓄積の少ない1642年のボローニャ移住後の活動について検討することである。そのために、移住後に多く注文されたシビュラ（異教の女予言者）主題作品や、それらと関連の深い受胎告知などの主題に着目して、17世紀ボローニャ周辺のキリスト教思想との関連から、各作品に独特な図像の着想源および同時代における需要の様相を考察する。本年度は、グエルチーノが1646年にピエーヴェ・ディ・チェントにあるエスコラピオス修道会付属の受胎告知聖堂主祭壇のために制作した《受胎告知》について、その特異な構図に着目し、注文経緯とのつながりを検討した。図像に関しても、14世紀までさかのぼって同主題作例との比較を行うことで、本作品の特異性が構図だけでなく「天使の派遣」という受胎告知の直前の場面を扱った点にあることを明らかにした。その過程で、本図像と非常によく似た要素（構図・場面設定）で描かれたバルトロメオ・トラバレージの《受胎告知》（1566年頃）を知ることができ、本作品の影響源である可能性を指摘した。これらの内容は、5月に行われた美術史学会全国大会で口頭発表を行った。その後も引き続き、郷土史分野やエスコラピオス修道会に関する先行研究、そして一次資料を精読することで、本作品の注文経緯をより詳細に把握することに努めた。一次資料に関しては、ボローニャの古文書館（アルキジンナジオ）やピエーヴェ・ディ・チェント市立文書館で現物を実見することができた。トラバレージの作例については、シビュラと預言者が描きこまれていることや、16世紀に上演された受胎告知劇に基づいていることが指摘されており、シビュラと受胎告知との関連という観点においても重要な作例であることがわかった。

The purpose of this study is to investigate the activities of the 17th century painters of the 1642 period. The theme of the work is related to the theme of deep conception. The relationship between the ideas of the 17th century and the times is examined. The source of the unique image and the needs of the contemporary era are examined.
