本研究は1916年から1919年にかけて活動したアメリカの映画会社、ブルーバード社とその映画群をフェミニズムと比較映画史の観点から再考するものである。当該年度は以下の研究を行った。2021年度は新型コロナウイルスの影響により主に日本での研究に従事した。前半は日本におけるブルーバード映画俳優の人気に着目した研究を行った。この研究では、同社の女優陣が日本においてスターとして独自のペルソナを獲得した過程を一次資料を用いて明らかにした。後半は、日本の映画会社の中でもブルーバード映画の影響が最も強かった、松竹の蒲田撮影所に着目した研究を行った。日本における映画製作は長らく男性優位であったが、蒲田撮影所は1920年代という早い時期に、人気女優であった松井千枝子を脚本家としても起用するという先進的な試みを行った。これはアメリカ映画、とりわけ女性監督の作品も多いブルーバード映画の影響を受けていた松竹であったからこそ実現したのではないかと考え、松井の多彩な活躍を論じた。2022年4月から9月までは研究費の繰越を申請し、この期間に新型コロナウイルスの影響で長らく困難であった海外での調査を行った。前半はカリフォルニア大学ロサンゼルス校(UCLA)に約3ヶ月滞在し、同大学の図書館や近隣のマーガレット・へリック図書館が所蔵する資料を用いて、アメリカでのブルーバード社の活動を調査した。またこの滞在期間中にアメリカ議会図書館を訪問し、同図書館が所蔵するブルーバード映画を視聴した。また8月末から9月頭にかけては、ヨーロッパでの調査を行った。フランスのアーカイブには多くのブルーバード映画が現存しているため、フランス国立図書館とCNCにおいて映像資料を視聴した。またフランス国立図書館、オランダの映画アーカイブにおいて一次資料へもアクセスし、ヨーロッパにおけるブルーバード映画受容の実態も調査した。
