（１）本研究では、15-16世紀イタリアの人文主義者たちがダンテ『神曲』に示した関心のうち、自然科学的観点にもとづく地獄の地理学的研究に焦点を合わせ、そうした文化潮流が有していた同時代美術との関連性を調査する。今年度はとりわけ、1481年のクリストフォロ・ランディーノ版『神曲』註解の序文で紹介された数学者兼建築家のアントニオ・マネッティによる「地獄の測量研究」と、その後継ともいうべき1506年のジロラモ・ベニヴィエニ『アントニオ・マネッティの対話』のテキストを比較し、両者の間に見られる連続性と差異を検証した。加えて時代的にこれら二つのテキストの中間に成立したと考えられる美術上の地獄イメージ、すなわちサンドロ・ボッティチェッリの『神曲』挿絵（ヴァチカン図書館）とジュリアーノ・ダ・サンガッロによる「地獄の断面図」素描（ローマ、ヴァリチェッリアーナ図書館、Ms.Z.79.A）の相関関係を考察した。現在、ベニヴィエニの論考がランディーノの時代以上により鮮明な地獄の視覚イメージを提示していることに着目し、その要因として、同時代に視覚化された上述のさまざまな地獄イメージのあったことを検証中である。（２）こうしたトスカーナ地方におけるダンテ受容に対し、ヴェネツィアを中心とする北イタリアの動向についても調査をおこなっている。とりわけ1544年のヴェルテッロ版『神曲』においては、マネッティの地獄研究に対する否定的立場が強く主張されることから、北イタリア独自の『神曲』解釈が依って立つ前提が見いだされるであろうこと、しかし一方で、1568年にヴェネツィアで出版されたベルナルディーノ・ダニエッロ註解版には、ヴェルテッロ版で抑制されていたフィレンツェ絵画との親和性がより鮮明に窺われることから、両都市間の文化的立場の流動性について具体的に検証中である。
