2022年は鴎外没後100年、生誕160年の記念の年であることから、雑誌『三田文学』から原稿依頼があり、「演劇人森鴎外―『三田文学』と自由劇場」を執筆した。本研究は、自由劇場を初めとする新劇勃興期の小劇場運動と鴎外の関係を解明することを課題の一つに掲げているが、この論文を執筆する際の資料調査によって、この課題解決が大きく進展した。以下に重要な点を列挙する。1）鴎外の母峰子の日記を分析することによって、弟篤次郎（三木竹二）の人間関係が鴎外と当時の演劇人との繋がりを生む重要な要素であることが明らかになった。特に小山内薫と鴎外の関わりを見ていく上で、峰子の日記は重要である。2）1910年2月に鴎外は上田敏とともに慶應義塾顧問に就任し、5月には『三田文学』を創刊している。永井荷風はこの年の2月に慶應義塾に就任、小山内も同じく教壇に立っている。同年11月の『三田文学』には「自由劇場特別号」と題して、小山内の翻訳劇『夜の宿』（ゴーリキ作）が掲載され、翌月自由劇場第三回試演として舞台化されている。この時同時に上演された吉井勇の『夢介と僧と』は12月刊行の『三田文学』に掲載されている。このように鴎外を中心に人脈が形成される様相を分析できた。3）陸軍軍医として重要な地位にあった鴎外が、軍服姿のままで、小山内や吉井などの若い世代の作家と歓談している様子を伝える貴重な資料が発見され、このことは公人としての鴎外と作家・演劇人としての鴎外という一見すると矛盾しているように見える様相を解明する手掛かりとなっている。この文脈で、鴎外のニーチェ受容を示す短編『あそび』などの分析が進み、さらに『三田文学』とニーチェというテーマ域が新たに浮上している。以上のように、演劇人鴎外の実践面での活動の広がりを対象に分析する道筋が見え、これまでほとんど研究されてこなかった領域が開けてきている。
