中国各地に残存する塩神廟について、所在地・設置時期・設置事情・神格・運営組織・祭祀活動などの基本情報を収集するとともに、神像・祠廟などの写真を付して、中国塩神廟研究のデータベースを作成し、それらのデータを駆使して、塩神信仰と他神信仰との習合、在地信仰の様相に見られる行政と一般庶民社会の関係、塩神信仰をめぐる漢族と少数民族の相克などを歴史的に考察することが本研究課題の主旨であるが、昨年度までの成果を継承して、本年度はとくに四川省井塩地区を対象として研究を実施した。その結果、現地住民が当初設定した祭神が他の祭神に代えられていく場合がしばしば見受けられるが、それは国家・地方政府が現地住民から塩業利益を簒奪していく過程で生じた現象であること、またその現象は漢族政権による少数民族支配の厳重化にも対応していること、塩神信仰がのちに道教神などの他神信仰と習合していくことはごく一般的に見られる現象であるが、四川省井塩地区のある場所では、そもそも当初から道士や仏僧が塩神そのものとして設定されているという例が見られ、それはいうまでもなく道教崇拝・仏教崇拝の浸透に対応していることなど、貴重な新知見を獲得することができた。３年来問題にしてきている塩神神格の地域差については、管仲を塩神として祭祀するのはほとんど江蘇・山東の商業都市に限られ、それは塩神廟の創設を主導した塩商財閥と関係官僚の意図によるものであるという、新しい知見を追加することができた。日中塩神信仰比較研究のため継続してきている日本各地塩釜神社の現地調査については、四国各県において十数か所の塩釜神社を調査し、塩神である塩土老翁神を当初から祭祀せず、塩神ではない古事記・日本書記系の天孫系諸神を祭祀しているという、つまり塩神を祭祀しない塩釜神社が存在するというきわめてまれな事例を確認することができたのは、貴重な発見であった。
