项目摘要

東アジアの木彫像（仏像や神像）ならびに茶室建築に注目し、それらの国や時代によって変化してきた用材観の解明に向けて従来の樹種識別手法に加えて申請者らが開拓してきた非破壊の樹種識別手法（μCTなど）などを駆使することで用材の大規模なデータベースを構築し、美術史、宗教史、建築史に欠けてきた科学的知見の獲得を進めてきている。本年度についても、コロナの影響が続き現地へ赴いての調査そのものは不可能であったが、国内や欧米の10か所の美術館の学芸員らと密接にコンタクトを取り、継続した研究を進めることができた。特に今年度は欧米の美術館との研究はもとより、特に日本国内の中でも特に山陰地方をはじめとした地域の木彫像調査を推進することができた。今年度、先ずは仏像篇の研究成果を紀要として出版することができた。また、2023年度は神像篇の出版を進めている。特に、これまで解明されていなかったモクレン属による造像の歴史を追い求めたいと考えている。茶室建築における樹種調査では、論文を投稿準備中である他、国宝如庵の用材観などをまとめた欧文論文も、準備中である。今後も継続した深みのある研究にむけて努力したい。また2022年8月にはこれまでの研究成果を掲載した単著を出版したが、産経新聞・日本経済新聞・朝日新聞・読売新聞・地方誌・神社新報・などで紹介されたほか、重版にもしていただくなど、研究成果の社会への還元に役立てることができたと自負している。今後も継続して、研究に邁進したい。
