我が国では地方国立大学においても、学生にとって留学より参加のハードルが低い短期海外研修プログラムが正課科目として提供されるケースが増えてきた。しかしながら、多くの場合、派遣先の海外大学が提供するプログラムをそのまま利用するかたちで実施されており、教育の質の保証が十分なされているとは言い難い状況である。そこで、派遣学生の研修参加前・参加後のデータに基づく効果的な事前・事後指導のモデルを開発する予定であったが、コロナ渦で派遣がすべて中止となり、データ収集も滞ってしまった。そのため、代替としてオンラインで提供された短期海外研修プログラムの参加者を対象に、アンケート調査結果や報告書の量的・質的データを収集して分析したところ、オンライン上であっても大学の教育目標に沿った教育効果が期待でき、さらに適切な教育的介入によってその効果が高まる可能性が示唆された。なお、対象としたオンライン研修は、いずれも英語運用能力の向上を主な目的としていたことから、研修前後での英語力伸長を客観的な英語運用能力測定テストにより測定したところ、英語のスピーキング能力において一定の伸長が認められた。次年度からようやく派遣型のプログラムが再開されることになったため、実際に現地で学んだ学生から各種データを収集すると同時に、大学として養成すべき具体的な能力やスキルを明確にし、その養成に必要となる教育的介入を組み込んだ事前・事後指導の全学モデルを構築することにしている。
