本研究は、カンボジア・アンコール地域のクメール建築において、13～15世紀のアンコール王朝末期（ポスト・バイヨン期）の遺跡を整理し、それぞれを比較研究することにより、この時期のクメール建築の特徴を明らかにすることを目的とする。2022年度は、新型コロナウィルス蔓延の影響で、カンボジア・西トップ遺跡での現地調査を1回のみおこなった。調査では、東テラス北面外装について、外装の一部を撤去して下層遺構の確認をおこない、写真撮影、実測調査、調書作成などをおこなった。その結果、後世の増築部と考えられていた東テラスが、2019年度の調査で確認した下層ラテライト遺構に沿って構築されていることが判明し、これまでの想定と異なる知見となった。したがって、これまでの西トップ遺跡の構築の変遷について修正を加える必要があり、2023年度の課題となった。また、仏像台座の下層で確認した遺構の延長部分が確認できず、東テラスの前身以降については、さらなる調査が必要であることが明らかとなった。このほか、類例調査としてアンコール・トム内のプリア・ピトゥ遺跡の実測調査をおこなった。本遺跡は5つの祠堂で構成される複合遺跡であるが、そのうち祠堂Xについては、西トップと同時期のポスト・バイヨン期の遺構であると指摘されている。したがって、西トップ遺跡との比較検討のため、平面図・断面図作成のための実測調査と、石材のモールディングの実測、写真撮影、調査作成をおこなった。この調査は完了していないため、2023年度も引き続き行う予定である。
