マレーシアから帰国したタミルナード看護師へのアンケート調査をベースに、短期出稼ぎ労働が看護師の帰国後のパーセプションにいかなる影響を与えたかを検討した。インドからマレーシアへの看護師の労働移動は多くが3年以下の短期契約に基づくものである。パーセプションを（１）economic and financial conditions, （２）social status in India, （３）nursing skills and knowledge, （４）communication skills, （５）language (English) proficiency, （６）patient care, and （７）self-confidence、に分類した場合、（１）と（２）を除く項目において6割から7割を超える看護師がポジティブな変化を感じていると回答した。一方、（１）と（２）においては4割程度の看護師が変化を感じないと報告している。労働移動の目的が経済的理由であるにも関わらず、経済的、社会的なプラスの変化を感じないのは、マレーシアへの労働移動が短期間であることが影響している。さらに2000年代以降のインドや世界的な環境の変化も看護師のパーセプションに影響していると考えられる。インドの急速な経済発展や大量の看護学校の設立、またグローバル化により海外に出かけることが簡単なものとなり、かつてのように看護師となり出稼ぎに出ることが一生一大のイベントではなくなりつつある。そのような状況下、holiday worker nursesの存在が出現していると推察する。つまり経済的目的を主として出稼ぎに行くのではなく、楽しさを求め渡航する若い看護師の出現である。この傾向はシンガポールで実施した調査でも確認できている。このような新しい傾向を発見したことは大きな成果であると言える。
