本課題の当初の3年間の期間中に、タイおよびラオスの地名履歴データを構築と運用における改善をはかるために必要な調査として、タイにおける聞き取りによる村落レベルの古い地名に関する情報の収集を進めることを複数回予定していた。延長した本年度こそは新型コロナウィルス感染症の状況改善を待ってタイにおける現地調査を行いたいと切望していたものの、現地調査時の相手方の心象を斟酌する限り時期尚早と判断し、見送った。従って、古い地図に記載されていない地名の聞き取りなど、地名履歴の構築を前進させるための記憶に頼る情報の収集は実施できていない。もう一つの本課題で計画していた海外渡航を伴う資料調査は、訪問先が限定され先方関係者の心象を損なう可能性が低いことから、本課題1年目以来3年ぶりに実施することができた。この資料調査により、タイ国東北部およびその周辺国における地名履歴に関連した数多くの貴重な地図資料に接することができた。本年度は3年ぶりに実施できた資料調査で収集した地図資料を含めたこれまで収集済みの資料の整理、ならびにこれらからの地名データの拾い出しと整理を主に行ってきた。また、地名データの構造化記述による整理について、適切と考えるツールやデータ記述の長期継続的な活用に関する技術的な検討を行いつつも、資料群の増加によって方針を定めるのに躊躇する部分があることが現状となっている。なお、タイ東北部と南側に隣接するカンボジアにまたがる地域の地名の共通性に関した研究報告を国際会議の場で行うことができ、古い地名の地名変遷を記録し学術的な情報として共有していくことの意義について議論を深めることができた。
