本年度はフォローアップ調査と総括に充てる予定となっていたが、一次資料の収集のために渡英することができず、総括を行うことはできなかった。そのためオンラインで公開されている資料とすでに所有している資料を使用して、主に1850年代・60年代および世紀転換期の少女雑誌における少女の表象および読者・編集者の役割の変化を比較、検証した。日本ヴィクトリア朝研究学会第22回研究大会では、「Girl’s Own Paper と Girl’s Realm における 読者の役割」というタイトルで、二誌における1900年の慈善団体の結成の意義と読者・編集者の関係性の変化を論じた。この慈善団体は中産階級女性としての責務を学ぶ場でありながら、同時に読者が雑誌の庇護の下、主体的に行動することができる場にもなっていたことを明らかにした。しかし雑誌は少女に機会を与えるだけではなく、彼女たちを雑誌の広告塔として利用したことも重要である。雑誌と読者はお互いに利益を与え合う関係を持つようになったのである。Girl's Realmは、主体性を持ちつ活動的な少女を"Girl of the Period"と呼んだ。これは明らかにEliza Lynn Lintonのエッセイへのカウンターアクトである。その点に注目し、『城西大学語学教育センター研究年報』(第15号)へは、自己犠牲の精神に固執する雑誌Monthly Packetと20世紀へ向けて少女観をアップデートしようとする短命の雑誌Girl of the Period Miscellanyの二誌を取り上げた学術論文「19世紀イギリスにおける「少女」に関する議論とその転換点」を投稿した。"Girl of the Period"をキーワードにすることで、50年を隔てた四誌の少女雑誌の影響関係を明らかにしながら、少女観の変遷と読者・編集者の関係性を検証することができた。
