本研究の目的は，経営者の時間志向性(長期志向性・短期志向性)が企業多角化に与える影響を実証的に検討することにある．本研究では，経営者の時間志向性を，従来の研究でよく用いられているletter to shareholders(『株主の皆様へ』)ではなく，アナリストと経営者の直接的な対話内容であるEarnings Call Transcriptを利用したテキスト分析によって測定する．これによって，経営者自らが記述したわけではないテキスト(例えば『株主の皆様へ』)を分析するのではなく，彼ら自身が発言した内容を分析でき，経営者がどれくらい長期(短期)で経営を考えているのかをより妥当に測定できるようになると考えられる．測定を終えた後は，経営者の時間志向性が，経営者による重要な意思決定の1つである企業多角化の程度にどのような影響を与えるのかを検証していく．2022年度に行った活動は，当初の研究計画通り，データベース作成作業である．このデータベース作成作業は，大きく2つに分けられる．第1に，従属変数である企業多角化変数の作成・修正と財務データを用いた統制変数の作成．S&P社のCapital IQ(Compustat)というデータベースを用いて，大規模な米国企業の財務情報と，関連多角化・非関連多角化の程度を測定している．また，研究に必要となる統制変数(例えば，トップ・マネジメント・チームの人数や属性)なども作成した．第2に，経営者の時間志向性についての変数修正作業である． Compustat(及びseekingα)を用いて，2008年以降のEarnings Call Transcriptを入手し，総行数2300万行弱のテキスト・データベースの作成を行い，各テキストの発言時期と発言者を特定するデータクリーニング作業ののちに，経営者の時間志向性を測定する単語カウントなどを行っている．
