本研究は、日本国内の地域間物価格差が生じる要因を究明し、物価指数における財とサービスの区分を検討・考察する。伝統的な考え方によれば、財は地域間移動が可能であり裁定取引がなされる一方、サービスは地域間移動が不可能であるために、国内の地域間物価格差はもっぱらサービスから生じることになる。このような考え方には日本国内の財の市場が統合されているという認識が前提となっている。前年度の令和3年度までには次のような結果を得た。「小売物価統計調査」により、都道府県庁所在地について約40品目の2000年以降の月次データを作成した。品目を①生鮮食品、②加工食品および保蔵可能な財、③サービスの3グループに分け、先行研究を踏まえて各地域の市場の分断の指標を定義した。その結果、やはり財よりもサービスのほうが一般的に分断の程度は大きいが、同じ財でありながら①と②は分断の程度が大きく異なることが明らかとなった。②はもっとも分断の程度が小さく、①は財でありながらもむしろサービスである③に分断の程度が近いという結論となった。また、②は地域市場の分断の程度は地域間の距離に影響される一方で、①の地域市場の分断の程度に地域間の距離の影響は確認されなかった。地域物価水準、地域市場の統合・分断の視点からは、単純な財とサービスという2分類はデータから明確に指示されないことになる。また、③についてはやはり①と同様に市場の地域間の分断の程度に地域間の距離の影響は確認されなった。このような知見が得られつつあるが、計量分析の結果がほぼ揃いつつある段階であり、まだ、完成された論文とはなっていない。また、さらなる計量分析も必要と考えられる。
