本研究は、これまで申請者が取り組んできた江戸城本丸御殿大奥(以後、大奥と表記)や加賀藩の大名屋敷の女性の空間における住宅史研究をより深化させ、大名屋敷の奥向にみられる空間構成について、部屋構成、設備空間、室内意匠、使用実態を包括的に捉えることで、大名屋敷の奥向における空間構成の原理を明らかにすることを目的としている。具体的には、近世上層武家住宅における女性の生活空間として、将軍から降嫁があった藩、なかった藩の奥向をそれぞれ取り上げ、大奥や御三家、御三卿、加賀藩の奥向に関するこれまでの研究成果を踏まえた上で、新たに史料調査で収集した各種絵図史料や文献資料を基に、分析を行っている。本年度は、本務の業務の関係で史料収集のための現地調査を実施する時間をとることができなかったが、近世日本建築史研究者との研究交流、意見交換を行うとともに、彦根藩、高田藩、米沢藩、松代藩の奥向について江戸上屋敷奥向の各種絵図史料、文献史料について、東京史料編纂所、国文学研究資料館、 彦根城博物館、彦根市立図書館、公文書センター、上越教育大学附属図書館、新潟県立文書館、米沢市立米沢図書館、米沢市上杉博物館、真田宝物館などの所蔵されている史料について、史料の把握を行った。またそれぞれの江戸上屋敷奥向に関する記述史料、絵図を読み解き、それぞれの江戸上屋敷奥向の平面構成の違いに繋がる原理を見出すために、部屋構成、設備空間、室内意匠、使用実態を総合して考察し、上層武家住宅の女性の生活空間の特質について検討を進めている。
