项目摘要

今年度は主に資料の分析及び再構築を進めた。『日本外交文書』、『琉球所属問題』、『李文中公全集』、『清季外交史料』、『清光緒朝中日交渉史料』、"Message of the President of the United States, transmitting A report of the Secretary of the Navy, in compliance with a resolution of the Senate of December 6,1854."等、これらの基礎的資料を関連付けることによって、本研究テーマでもある「外交の連動性」について明らかにした。また従来のキーワードを紐付ける方法ではなく、時間軸を中心に「琉球」「日清修好条規」というキーワードの周辺にも範囲を広げた。それにより日本、清朝、米国における外交の全体像が浮かび上がり、その中で「琉球」がどのように位置付けられているかを明らかにした。なお、これらの作業の一部については、研究成果として令和5年度中に出版する。資料の再構築によって、日・清・米の外交における琉球の役割や地位について、より詳細な調査を行うことができた。その中で、琉球が外交上の枢要な位置を占め、国際関係において重要な役割を果たしていたことが明らかになった。また、琉球に対する日本、中国、米国のそれぞれの立場や認識についても、深く掘り下げることができた。特に、日清修好条規と琉球処分の連動性によって琉球の扱いがどのように決定されたかについては、新たな視点を提供することができると考えている。今後も引き続き、より詳細な研究を進め、琉球が日・清・米の外交上で果たした役割やその影響力を明らかにしていくことが重要であると考えている。
