项目摘要

2017年度は、引き続き古文書における、メキシコの商人とアジア商人のネットワークを探す作業を行いつつ、中国陶磁器のポルトガル人による取引について調べた。結果、古文書の方では具体的な人名などネットワーク全体を明らかにする文書をみつけることはできなかったが、マニラに入港してくる船や商人の名前が記載されている登録書を見つけ出すことができ、マニラの東南アジアにおけるネットワークの一部が明らかになった。その商業ネットワークは活発で、コーチシナ、カンボジアなど東南アジアの様々な国、広東や福建といった主要な交易港、およびインドにまで及ぶ広いネットワークの中にマニラが存在していたことがわかった。一方、リスボンで出土している中国陶磁器についての調査を行ったところ、16世紀後半から17世紀まではメキシコと同様のタイプの陶磁器の出土が目立ったが、18世紀に属する陶磁器の量は圧倒的にリスボンの方が多く、アジアにおけるポルトガル人の交易活動が変わらず活発であったことがわかる。またその量の多さから中国陶磁器の需要がポルトガルにおいて多かったことが判明した。これらの陶磁器はリスボンだけで消費されたということではなく、コインブラ、エボラなどほかの主要都市でも出土が確認されていることから、リスボンからさらに船などによって北部へ運ばれ、使用されていたことがポルトガルでの発掘によって知ることができた。また、これらはさらに北上して北ヨーロッパへと運ばれていたようである。
