平成24年度1.4月～10月:先行研究の調査と予備調査の準備先行研究を調査し,予備調査票の作成に向けた準備を行った。また専門的な統計処理および分析を行うため,統計の専門家への分析依頼および打ち合わせを行った。2.11月:予備調査の実施と分析インターネットのサイトを用いて,匿名で予備調査を実施した(10名を対象に)。予備調査の項目には量的データ(リッカートスケールなど)と質的データ(自由回答)を含み,これらを量的,質的に分析した(クロス集計,因子分析,コレスポンダンス分析,クラスター分析など)。その結果に基づいて予備調査項目に修正を加え本調査の調査票を作成した。3.12月～1月:本調査の実施インターネットのサイトを用いて,日本人の大学英語教師を対象に本調査を実施し,約130名から回答を得た。対象者の8割以上は,大学英語教育学会会員の教師を無作為に抽出し回答を得た。その他の2割弱は,研究代表者及び分担者の知人に依頼した。4.1月～2月:本調査の分析予備調査と同様,回収したデータ(有効回答数114)を量的,質的に分析した(クロス集計,因子分析,コレスポンダンス分析,クラスター分析など)。その結果,教師の目的意識は,学生個人の成長に関するものと,コミュニケーションに関するもの及び社会の発展に寄与するものに分けられることが分かった。また教師の属性により目的意識に差異があることが分かった。5.3月17日:日本英語教育学会第43回年次研究集会で研究結果の中間発表を行った6.3月末:追跡調査の実施と分析本来は,次年度に予定していた追跡調査を前倒しで実施した。追跡調査は,上記本調査では不明であった点を明らかにすべく,自由回答形式で,教師の目的意識をより深く尋ねた(有効回答20)。その結果を質的に分析した。その結果,教師の目的意識には多様性があり,またその内容が明らかとなった。
