A link between TGF-ß activated SMAD2 and -3 and the MLL4 histone H3K4 methylation complex has been identified previously. The relation between wild type and mutants of SMAD2, -3 and -4 and epigenetic control of TGF-ß signaling will be investigated in colorectal cancer cells providing a better understanding as to how epigenetic control by the TGF-ß activated SMADs can be exploited to develop novel intervention strategies to suppress metastasis.
