A new database system was designed and constructed in 1981, in order to provide the newest and most reliable numerical data on thermophysical properties of fluids to the scientific and technical community as quickly as possible. The database was concerned with 12 kinds of property data of 340 pure fluids under all conditions of 7 convenient physical states. One of distinguishing features of the system is to provide a retrieval system consisting of 10 kinds of retrieval routines. Since 1981, the database has been opened to the public.From the industrial importance of data of fluid mixtures, the present work was planned to expand this database system to mixtures. The accomplishments in this year are summarized as follows:1) Selection and input of property data for mixtures ... Thermodynamic properties, such as density, compressibility factor, specific heat of binary mixtures, have been input after the critical evaluation of existing data.2) Selection of the mixing rules ... In order to cover the lack of experimental data for mixtures, various mixing rules are examined to calculate the properties of mixtures from the available data of pure components. Nearly 30 rules are input and a program is designed to select the appropriate formulas among them.3) The comprehensive evaluation of the complete system has been made concerning to the structure and the functions of the present database for fluid mixtures.
