This study examines researchers’ perspectives on challenges and opportunities influencing the development of international research collaborations between Japanese researchers and their international research collaborators.Research systems in each nation differently shape the scholarship identity of each individual researcher, and national interests of each nation have also influenced the development of research system and structure.This focuses on analyzing various perspectives of individual researchers, policymakers, and research support professionals to understand how to refine research policies at the institutional, national, and international levels.
