大玉アリルの有無での地上部形質の生育の違いを明らかにするため、大玉アリルを持つ集団　(+/+）と持たない集団（-/-）を各々育成した。タマネギは遺伝的な固定度が高まると近交弱勢を生じるため、ヘテロ型(+/-)の個体の自殖後代から大玉アリル持つ個体（+/+）と持たない個体（-/-）を各々10個体ずつ選抜し、各々でグループ内での交配・集団採種を行い、各々のアリル型に固定した2集団を育成した。各集団500粒以上を採種した。これらを2月中旬に播種、育苗し、来年度の栽培比較試験に向けた準備を進めた。来年度の4月中旬に圃場に定植し、2週間ごとに抜き取りによる生育調査を行い、大玉性に寄与する地上部形質を明らかにする。
