本研究の背景について、日本国内の現在の介護給付費の総額は約10兆円。高齢者人口がほぼピーク（高齢者数3,920万人、高齢化率35.3%）を迎える2040年頃には約25.8兆円と推計されている。介護給付費の増加は、介護保険料にも影響するため、住民負担の観点でも、その増加抑制は喫緊の課題である。そこで、本研究では、地域レベルの社会参加割合と個人の介護給付費の関連を、6年間の大規模データを用いて検証する。本研究を行うことで、地域の社会参加割合を高めると、個人の社会参加の有無に関わらず、介護給付費がどの程度抑制されるのかといった仮説検証が可能となる。具体的費用額も算出可能なことから、社会的意義がありインパクトが高い研究である。本研究の検証のために、日本老年学的評価研究（JAGES: Japan Gerontological Evaluation Study）のデータセットを用いる。JAGESが2010年8月から2011年12月の間に、25保険者（31市町村）において、要介護認定を受けていない高齢者169,215人に調査を実施し、112,123人から回答が得られた（回収率66.3%）。その後、2010年8月から2016年11月まで約6年間（75ヶ月）の要介護認定情報（認定申請日や要介護度等）、介護保険料賦課情報（死亡または転出の情報）、介護保険給付実績データ（介護サービスの利用実績）が得られた、10保険者（12市町）46,668人のデータを使用する。研究1年目の2021年度は、関連する先行研究の収集、記述統計や探索的分析を行った。研究2年目は、マルチレベル分析による検証を進める。

The background of this study is that the total amount of current care payments in Japan is about 10 trillion yen.
