本研究の目的は比喩表現を用いた美的判断の仕組みを明らかにすることである。2022年度は「優しい味」がどのような意味で「優しい」のかを、認知言語学における概念メタファーを用いて説明する研究を行なった。「優しい味」という表現は飲食のレビューなどでよくみられる言葉であるが、改めて考えてみると、それがどのような意味であるのかはそれほど明らかではない。「優しい」はまずもって人の行動や性格に対して使われる言葉であり、飲食物が文字通りの意味で優しい行動をするわけではないからだ。この問題に取り組むため、認知言語学における概念メタファーに着目した。概念メタファーという考えによれば、比喩はたんに言葉上の表現ではなく、私たちの物事の理解の仕方に関わるものである。たとえば、「時は金なり」という言葉は、時間はお金と同じように使ったり、浪費したり、節約したりするものであることを示している。私たちの時間の理解の仕方は、お金概念によって枠組みを与えられているのである。そして言語学では「味は人である」という概念メタファーが存在することが示唆されている。味は人と同じように、主張したり、うるさっかたり、他とけんかしたりするものだというのだ。そして「優しい」も人の概念メタファーに含まれる。しかし、味が人概念によって構造を与えられているとして、優しい味と優しい人にはどのような共通点があるのか。本研究では、優しい味は優しい人と同じく、それと関わった人（食べた人／優しい行為の対象となる人）に、落ち着き、感謝、賞賛といった心の状態をもたらすものであるという見解を提示した。
