本研究全体としては、人々の欲望が商品化され流通する資本主義体制の社会の中で政治とポピュラー文化の境目が不明瞭になっている中で、いかにして民主的な市民社会を維持する主体というものを考えることができるかを、ファン研究と「感情の政治」研究との間で検討するものである。理論研究と事例研究の両面からファン研究と「感情の政治」研究を架橋することを目的として、「欠如の主体」という概念を鍵として文化・政治を横断する現象を分析するための主体概念を作り出すことが目標である。初年度については、私の専門である映画・メディア研究やその隣接分野であるアニメ研究やアイドル研究などの知見を補助線として利用して、文化の領域と政治の領域を結びつけるための理論的準備を行った。映画理論における縫合理論とこの理論に立脚してフェミニズム映画理論に大きく貢献した「男性のまなざし」を再検討し、主体とイメージとの関係をより一般的に議論する理論的枠組みを検討する作業を行なった。この作業の中で、トランスメディア的に拡散するイメージとそれを対象として立ち上がる主体の関係を理論的に整理することができた。この成果は「平面と遊ぶ主体：アニメや漫画のキャラクター・イメージのトランスメディア的拡散」というタイトルで査読論文にまとめ、発表した。本研究と問題関心をある程度共有するが独立した研究として「英語圏ファン研究の批判的受容と日本・東アジアからの応答」という研究グループを立ち上げ、このメンバーとの共同研究の相乗効果を産むこともできた。
