本研究は、イギリスの戯曲家アーノルド・ウェスカーが1960年代初めに結成した組織、センター42のフェスティバルに含まれていた「フォークソングコンサート」と「民謡劇」に着目し、文献・音源資料をもとに、そこから読み取れる労働者の表象とフォークリヴァイヴァルの地方への波及性を分析するものである。本年度は、センター42主催のフェスティバルにおいてフォークソング部門を担当したイワン・マッコールと民謡劇を創作したチャールズ・パーカーが制作したラジオ番組『ビッグ・ヒューワー』に関する論文を『英米文化』(第53号 2023年3月刊行)に投稿した。炭鉱労働者の描き方が、センター42の構成を成す「民謡劇」や「フォークソング」における労働者の表象にどのように影響を与えたか、その過程を探ることができた。また、『英米文学研究』(第58号 2023年3月刊行）に寄稿する機会を頂き、ウェスカーの戯曲『根っこ』から読み取れるフォークリヴァイヴァルの影響と思想を論じ、センター42との関わりを考察することができた。2023年3月には、イギリスを訪れ、文献調査を行った。ロンドン・メトロポリタン大学労働組合会議図書館やヴォーン・ウィリアムズ記念図書館、バーミンガム公共図書館を訪問し、センター42に関する資料収集を行うことができた。特にバーミンガム公共図書館では、センター42のフェスティバルで開催された民謡劇『造る人と道具』の音源と台本を閲覧することができ、今後の研究遂行に向けて貴重な資料を得ることができた。またセンター42の関係者の一人に連絡をとることに成功し、当時の活動の様子について伺うことができた。
