项目摘要

本研究ではVRを使った海外留学前の英語授業が、学生のスピーキング力向上に繋がるか、外国語不安を低減するか、学生の海外留学また英語学習への内発的動機の向上に繋がるかを調べることである。本研究で海外留学前の英語授業にVRを利用して、その効果を検証して明らかになることは、VRを使ったTelecollaboration、VRの英語授業の導入など、英語教育の新しい可能性の探求に繋がる。具体的には次の３つの問いを立てて、研究を進めている。問１：海外留学前準備のVR英語授業が、スピーキング力向上に繋がるか。問２：海外留学前準備のVR英語授業が、外国語不安の低減に繋がるか。問３：海外留学前準備のVR英語授業が、海外留学と英語学習への内発的動機向上に繋がるか。VR授業研究のスケジュールとして 1年目は外国語不安と内的動機に関するアンケート作成、VRと対面授業の授業計画、VRを使った英語授業に関するパイロット研究を行う予定であった。当初予定よりも研究者が担当するオーストラリアでの１か月の留学プログラムに参加した学生が９名と少なったため、１年目は実験群と対照群を設けずに、Immerse社のVRサービスを使用してパイロットスタディを行った。主に留学前準備としての授業内容の決定に時間を割き、内容としては出国手続き時、ホームスティ―先、また大学内での英会話授業に適したＶＲ空間を選び、授業設計を行った。また今回はパイロットスタディでもあったため、妥当性の点から、ビジネス英語力を測定するTOEIC Speaking Testではなく、一般的な英会話力は測定するCASECをVR授業前、VR授業後、一か月間の留学後に参加学生の内、研究に参加同意をした学生に受験してもらい、アンケートに関しては外国語不安に関するアンケートをVR授業前、VR授業後、一か月間の留学後に回答してもらった。
