まず『明実録』中の嘉靖年間までの用例を集めて、使用時期・使用人物・本当に使用したかどうかの確認をまとめ一覧表を作成した。その結果、「祖制」が対句のための修辞ではなく内実をともなった政治用語として使われるのは、嘉靖九年の礼制改革以降であることが浮かび上がった。そこで、嘉靖九年の礼制改革の議論の詳細を考察し、「祖制」が使われた理由を検討した。その結果、礼制改革初期の天地分祀議論では「祖制」は政治的な意味を持つ用語として使われていなかったが、郊祀配侑論争で嘉靖帝の意向に反対するため礼部が「祖制」という言葉を故意に使用し、その後に嘉靖帝側も「祖制」を使用して自己喧伝するようになったことが明らかになった。また、「祖制」以外に王朝の祖先が定めた制度を表す類義語が中国の政治史上どの時代から使われるようになったのかの概略を調べ、あわせて明代初期における類義語の政治的使用を考察した。これらの成果をまとめて、2022年5月に京都大学人文科学研究所附属現代中国研究センター「近現代中国の制度とモデル」共同研究班において、口頭報告「中国明代における「祖制」の政治化―『明実録』の用例を手がかりに―」を行った。この口頭報告でコメンテーターを始めとする研究者から意見を頂戴し、それを反映させた学術論文を準備した。また、嘉靖年間後半から隆慶年間における「祖制」の展開を検討するため、隆慶年間の内閣大学士趙貞吉に関する史料を主に収集した。さらに「祖制」をめぐり議論が展開された嘉靖年間～隆慶年間の京営改革を考察するため、台湾で先行研究や史料の収集を行った。
