日本の近現代を代表する建築家・吉田五十八（1894-1974）については、これまで住宅作品を中心に研究が行われてきたが、特に戦後期にみられる工業材料の積極的な使用や設備機器の導入はむしろ住宅以外の作品において先行したことから、その作風をより詳細に把握するためには、料亭や宿泊施設、美術館等の公共施設、寺院といった住宅以外の作品の検討が必要不可欠である。また、住宅以外の作品で現存するものは、今後文化財への指定や登録が行われることや、解体の危険にさらされることが十分に考えられ、予め評価方法について備えをしておく必要がある。そのため、本研究では東京芸術大学大学美術館所蔵の図面資料および国会図書館を中心とした各建築作品に関する資料調査、一部所有者等へのヒヤリング調査を実施して、建築種別毎の変遷、現存作品のこれまでと今後の方針、吉田作品全体における各現存作品の評価、の3点を成果としてまとめたい。以上の研究方針の中で初年度となる今年度は、住宅以外の作品について資料収集とその分析を進め、研究のベースとなる作品全体の概要把握に努めた。なお、資料は国会図書館で作品名を中心に関連するキーワードを入力して実施するとともに、新聞記事についても収集を行った。なお、今年度の研究成果として「日本の近代住宅におけるパーゴラ等の吹抜架構の設置に関する研究」を記録したが、吉田五十八の初期作品にはパーゴラの設置がみられることを付記する。
