糖尿病患者に対する運動療法は血糖値や運動機能の改善、心血管疾患発症予防のために推奨されているが、施設へのアクセス不良や時間不足に起因した実施率の低さと、新型コロナウィルス感染拡大に伴う対面型運動療法の実施制限が課題である。この課題を解消するために、アクセスや時間についての制約が少なく、感染予防との両立が期待できる在宅型遠隔運動療法の効果検証が必要であるが、この観点からの研究は国内外を問わず行われていない。本研究では、Web会議システムを活用して在宅で取り組む遠隔運動療法が2型糖尿病患者の心機能、最高酸素摂取量(primary end point)、サルコペニア診断基準項目に与える効果と有害事象発生率、脱落率を明らかにする。そして、遠隔型運動療法が糖尿病患者の運動実施率改善と新型コロナウィルス感染症の感染拡大・重症化予防を両立することに加え、通院型運動療法と同等に安全で効果的に取り組める新たな運動システムとして臨床応用へと展開することを目的としている。本研究で、糖尿病患者に対する遠隔型運動療法が通院型運動療法と同等に安全かつ効果的に取り組める方法であることが明らかになれば、運動実施率が向上し、糖尿病に起因した心血管疾患、網膜症といった関連疾患の発症抑制が期待できる。さらに、これらの疾患の制御は医療費抑制や超高齢化社会となった本邦における健康寿命延伸への寄与も期待できる。令和4年度は、遠隔型運動介入前のベースライン調査として約20名の2型糖尿病患者の血液サンプル，心臓超音波検査データ，運動耐容能指標，サルコペニア診断基準項目のデータを収集することができた。
