本研究は、20世紀米国北カリフォルニアの先住民、白人移住者、そして日系人移民の人種間関係を土地政策やランド・グラント大学における農業教育を中心に人種とジェンダーの視点から明らかにする試みである。2022年度は、カリフォルニアの先住民、日系人、そして大学研究や環境史についての先行研究の収集を中心に研究を進めた。また、3月29日にUCLA Library Special Collectionsにおいて、同館所蔵の米国日系人研究プロジェクト(Japanese American Research Project (Yuji Ichioka) collection of material about Japanese in the United States)の史料調査を行った。当該史料群は、1960年代にJapanese American Citizens League (JACL)主導により収集された西海岸在住の日系一世、二世、三世のオーラル・ヒストリーをはじめとする760箱にも及ぶ歴史史料である。今回は、日系人の農業や地域活動を中心に史料調査を実施し、関連史料の一部を収集すると共に史料群全体の概要を理解することができ、今後の追加調査の実施に向け有意義な事前調査となった。3月30日から4月1日にかけては、米国歴史学会(2023 OAH Conference on American History)に参加し情報収集を行った。特に先住民研究やアジア系アメリカ人研究、そして環境史のセッションを中心に参加し、関連分野の先行研究に関する情報を得た。

This study examines the interracial relations between American immigrants, white immigrants, and Japanese immigrants in the 20th century, including land policies, universities, and agricultural education centers. In 2022, the research center for the study of environmental history, the research center for the study of Japanese and Japanese ancestors, and the research center for the study of environmental history were established. On March 29, 2013, UCLA Library Special Collections (Japanese American Research Project (Yuji Ichioka) collection of material about Japanese in the United States) conducted a survey of historical materials. When this historical data group was dominated by the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) in the 1960s, it collected 760 boxes of historical data from the first, second, and third generations of Japanese living on the West Coast. The historical data survey of agricultural and regional activities of Japanese people is carried out in the present, and a part of related historical data is collected, and a summary of all historical data groups is understood. The implementation of additional surveys in the future is meaningful. March 30-April 1: The 2023 OAH Conference on American History will be held in Washington. Special information on the participation of indigenous peoples in research, environmental history, and advanced research in related fields
