本研究はアクセシブルツーリズムの推進に向け、旅行介助を担う人材である「トラベルヘルパー」に焦点を当てた調査研究であり、担い手の普及に資する知見を得ることを目的としている。具体的には、トラベルヘルパーの就業動機とやりがいを中心にインタビュー調査を行い、担い手の職業観や就業の背景等の様相を探索的に明らかにしていく。研究初年度である2022年度は、インタビュー調査の準備として、文献調査と予備的考察、インタビューガイドの作成及び、質的データ分析ソフトの動作・操作確認を行った。文献調査においては、トラベルへルパーに関する学術的文献は見受けられないため、特定非営利法人日本トラベルヘルパー協会の公式サイト掲載情報や雑誌記事等の文献を広く収集し、予備的知見を得た。また、トラベルヘルパーが集う場である「トラベルヘルパー勉強会」に参加し、参与観察及びトラベルヘルパーとの接点を持った。2022年度の調査により、トラベルヘルパー資格取得者層として、介護職従事者や介護経験がある人、介護福祉士、ＰＴ、ＯＴが多いことや、特に女性、リタイア後の男性や独立開業した人が熱心に取り組んでいることを把握した。また、病院・介護事業所の兼業として働く人や主婦からトラベルヘルパーになった人もおり、キャリアップや自己実現、社会貢献等の多様な就業動機が見られた。次年度以降のインタビューでは、今年度得られた知見をふまえ、事例の多様性を確保できるように対象者を選定し、インタビュー調査を進める。
