The main achievements in FY 2022-2023 are: (1) a detailed literature review was conducted to better situate the work within the context of ongoing research involving eye tracking in design. In this, we have conducted a broad survey involving over 30 works between the years 1996-2023, and identified several clusters such as memory studies, navigation studies, form evaluation studies, etc. This enables to better position this study with respect to ongoing efforts to understand the behavior of designers, and emphasize its potential for expanding the scope of design evaluation studies into the domain of design conversation between several stakeholders; (2) a formal approval from the ethics committee of the Tokyo Institute of Technology was obtained, to conduct research with human subjects; (3) technical preparations for executing the eye tracking experiment in a lab environment were completed, including a pilot for data collection and its analysis; (4) as a basis for the eye tracking experiment, two studies which explore the relations between design conversation and interpretation were executed and published - one which demonstrates how we can extract designers' subjective interpretations from speech (Cao, Kahlon and Fujii, 2022) and another in which we proposed a framework for analyzing narratives in design (Kahlon and Fujii, 2022). These will serve as the basis for analyzing the data from the eye tracking experiment; (5) recruitment of our first group of professional architects for our eye tracking experiment was completed.
