仮骨延長法を応用し、下顎歯槽部での幅経増大が可能かどうかをイヌを用いて実験を行った。まず歯槽部の水平的延長に用いる金属製スクリューを作成した。スクリューの長径は10mm〜15mmとして、先端の支持部と基部の延長部を持つスクリューで、基部の延長部に設けたねじ山で頬側の移動骨片を延長方向へ移動させる構造とした。実験にはビーグル成犬のメスを用いた。下顎両側の前臼歯を抜歯し、抜歯窩が完全に治癒した後に同部の垂直的骨きりを行い、頬側皮質骨骨片(移動骨片)を分離した。骨きりは歯槽頂部と頬側の近遠心の2カ所で皮質骨の骨きりを行い、15mm×10mmの移動骨片とした。骨片には可及的に骨膜を付着させた状態で骨きりと分割を行った。移動骨片に延長用スクリューを装着し、約10日間の治癒期間の後に延長を開始した。延長速度は一日に0.5mmとして総延長量が7mmになるように延長を行った。延長終了時から2、4、6、8週後にそれぞれ屠殺し、X線学的および組織学的観察を行った。延長終了後2週目から4週目では骨きり中央部では線維組織で満たされているものの、骨膜周囲では新生骨の形成を認めた。延長終了後8週目では良好な骨形成を認めた。現在一日の延長速度を1mmの群を作成して実験中である。
