本研究の目的は, 極小規模校の複式学級を対象に, 思考力を向上させるボール運動教材及び授業プログラムを開発し, 有効性を明らかにすることである。研究の対象となった学級は, 5年生5名(男子2名, 女子3名)と6年生3名(男子2名, 女子1名)の複式学級であった。ベースボール型, ゴール型, ネット型のボール運動領域の単元を対象にし, 特に少人数では学習しにくい「ボールを持たないときの動き」に視点を当てて教材の開発を行った。対象学級では, 学年差による技能や学習履歴の違いがあったことから, 5, 6年生とも同じ教材の中で学年に応じた内容を学習する指導方法を取り入れたり, メインゲームでは特別ルールをゲームに取り入れたりして, 学年段階に応じた学習が展開できるよう工夫した。また, いずれの型の授業においても意図的なプレーが出現するよう, プレー前に一度チームで集まって, 「どの場面で」「誰が」「何をするか」について話し合う活動を設けた。思考の変容についての評価は, 学習カードの自由記述の内容の変容, 全時間撮影したビデオ映像から児童の発言内容の変容, 体育授業の形成的授業評価票(高橋, 1994)を用いて行った。実践の結果, どの型の授業でも学習カードの記述内容に思考の変容が認められた。特に, 学習が進むにつれてチーム内の役割についての記述が増え, 複式学級においても「集団対集団で競い合い, 仲間と力を合わせて競争することに楽しさや喜び」(文部科学省, 2008)を味わわせることができた。また, 形跡的授業評価も高い値を示し, 児童が授業を受け入れていたことが分かった。しかし, 話し合い場面では6年生の発言に反論できなかったり, 意見が分かれた時には6年生の意見が優先されたりなど, 複式学級としての課題が見られた。今後は, 他の領域でも検証を重ね, 少人数における思考力の広がりに視点を当てた研究にも取り組む必要があると考えている。
