現在の中学校で学ぶ天文教育が経験や生徒の文脈とつながっておらず、脱文脈化した状態になっているのではないか。そこで、天文教育に「物語」的アプローチを用いることで、学びの意味や価値を実感し、生涯にわたって地球や宇宙への興味関心をもち学び続けようとする生徒が育成できるという仮説をたて、それを実践・検証した。研究方法は以下の3点である。1 ガリレオの発見物語を軸とした単元構成の改良2 授業中の生徒の学びの文脈と単元終了後の生徒の「ものがたり」の分析3 「物語」的アプローチの有効性の検証前年、天動説と地動説を巡る論争に対し、観測事実にもとついて地動説を確信していったガリレオの研究を追体験しながら、科学的な見方・考え方を育成するとともに、文脈の中で必然性を持った学びができるように単元を構成し、授業を行った。しかし、その単元は教科書の学習内容の流れと大きく異なり、公立中学校の授業で実施していく上で困難なものであると感じた。そこで、今年度は教科書の内容に付け加える形で単元を組み直し授業を行った。その結果、天動説と地動説を巡るガリレオの物語を組み込むことで、過去の歴史や自己の経験といった様々な文脈とつなげ、自分の学びを意味づけたり、価値づけたりすることができている生徒の姿が学習中や単元後の表出物から見られた。前年、今年度の取り組みから、脱文脈化した知識ではなく、歴史的、文化的文脈とつなげようとする「物語」的アプローチが生徒の学びの意味や価値を実感させるのに有効である事がわかった。しかし、今年度は観察や体験の一部を省略してしまったために、文脈とのつながりが前回よりも薄れ、単元後の生徒の振り返りの中に、宇宙の美しさや不思議さに対する感性的な記述の深まりが前年ほどは見られなかった。今後は、もう一度観察や体験を精選し、ガリレオの感じた驚きや感動を体験できる単元構成へと改良していきたい。
