本研究では、小規模博物館でのクイズラリーを用いた体験活動を、より効果的に子どもたちの地学教育につなげる手法を開発することを目的とした。また、実際にその手法を実践し、どのような学習効果が上がるのかを検証した。様々な分野・施設で応用可能な手法を目指している。<研究方法>博物館の展示を受動的にただ見るだけではなく、能動的に見て学ぶ過程を楽しむ体験学習として、クイズラリーを用い、実際にコースを作成した。難易度など条件を変えたコースを複数設定し、体験者の博物館での滞在時間や反応を観察した。また、体験者への聞き取り調査およびアンケート調査を行い、過去の普及行事参加者に行ったアンケート調査の結果と比較し、学習効果を検証した。クイズラリーのコースは、小学生を対象として想定したコースとして、博物館内の展示物をじっくりと観察するコースや、博物館の展示物と関連する時事ニュース(「日本の石」がヒスイに決定! )を取りいれたコースなどを作成した。<研究成果>クイズラリーを行うことで、館内での来館者の滞在時間は、格段に長くなることがわかった。また、クイズの問題に取り上げることで、「見てほしい展示物」に来館者を誘導することができ、クイズの解答としてキーワードを強く印象付けることが可能で、学習効果を高めることができた。従来、比較的年齢の高い子どもたちを想定した体験活動を行ってきたが、今回、こうした体験学習に積極的に参加するのは、小学校低学年の子どもたちが多いことが分かった。今後は、この傾向を踏まえた活動を行うことが効果的だと考えられる。また、小規模な施設では、顕微鏡など体験学習の機材が少なく、希望者に待ち時間ができてしまうことが難点だったが、待ち時間にクイズラリーを行うことで、時間を有効に活用できることがわかった。今後は、様々な分野・施設で応用可能な、汎用性の高い手法とするため、さらに改良を加えていきたい。
