研究目的 : 南方に拡がる巨石遺構の歴史的位置付けと基層文化解明を目的とする。研究方法 : 形態的特徴と型式分類からインドネシアスラウェシ島中部のNapu・Besoa・Badaの石造物とその西方に隣接するKulawi・Danau Lindu及び南部のTanah Torajaの石造物との相違点を明らかにする。さらに、南方の石造文化が、台湾東海岸を起点とするのかをスラウェシ島中南部と比較考察する。研究成果 : Napu・Besoa・Badaの西隣接地山間部のKulawi・Danau lindu、南部のTanah Torajaにおいて石造物を実見した。Kulawi・Danau linduにおいて石人像は確認されなかった。現在、Napu・Besoa・BadaにはTOBADA呼ばれる一連の部族が暮らし、Kulawi・Danau lindu にはKAILIと呼ばれる部族が暮らしている。グルーバウエル『セレベス民俗誌』清野謙治訳1944 : 349, 353よると両者はしばしば交戦したことが記されている。Kulawiの村には慣習家屋、犠牲柱、ダコン(遊具?)と呼ばれる石造物が遺されていた。Lindu湖東岸の村跡には慣習家屋の梁と考えられる水牛の頭を彫りこんだ朽ちかけた横木を確認した。南スラウェシ州のTanah Toraja では14世紀の慣習の家(Tongkonan Rumah Adat)と前庭に立つ石人像(Patung Batu)、近接地にて、獣骨を保管する家屋を発見し、石造物の用途を考える上で、非常に重要な研究資料が明らかとなった。さらに、環太平洋から東南アジアにかけての巨石文化の拡がりを研究するため、台湾東海岸に栄えた卑南文化・麒麟文化の遺跡と国立台湾史前文化博物館にて石造物を実見した。麒麟文化には石像、石棺或いは石槽といったスラウェシ島中南部と同様の形式の石造物もある。しかし、具象的な石人像は麒麟(1体)、白守蓮(1体)、和平(1体)で見つかっているが、抽象的な生殖器を表した石像が多くを占める。石棺或いは石槽は半球形刳貫式が豊浜(1基)などで見られるが、方形刳貫式が多く占める。中部スラウェシ州の方形刳貫式がNape(3基)、Bada西隣接地山間部のMopahi(1基)で見られるが、円筒形刳貫式が多くを占める。以上のことから、スラウェシ島との共通点も見られるが、同じ型式のものは少なく、台湾東海岸の石造文化を起点とする明確な根拠は得られなかった。しかし、麒麟文化の生殖器を表したとされる石像は子孫繁栄、卑南文化の立石は祖先崇拝に関わるものと考えられ、Napu・Besoa・Bada の生殖器を誇張した石人像やTorajaの祖先を表す立石(Simbuang Batu)同様、当時の人々の精神文化の表れである。今後、更なる資料の蓄積と広範囲な調査研究により石造文化が明らかになると考える。
