1. 医療情報を求めて来た患者に対して、国立大学が設置している患者図書室(以下「図書室」)で、十分な情報提供がなされているか調査した。2. 調査の方法(1) 国立大学に設置された病院に対して、先行調査を参考にアンケート調査を行なった。特に国立大学に設置された医学部図書館との連携や、病院以外の他機関との連携についても調べた。(2) アンケート結果を精査して、特徴的な図書室として「名古屋大学・鳥取大学・島根大学」を抽出して現地調査を行い、現状の運営方法やその効果について調べた。(3) 上記を踏まえ、患者が求める情報をいかに図書室が提供するのが良いかを考察し、関係する研究会等で発表するとともに、関係学会などの機関紙に論文として掲載すべく現在準備をしている。3. 本研究で明らかになったこと(1) 図書室を設置している大学病院は増えている(61%→70%)医療情報を積極的に提供している図書室は少なく、小説などの娯楽図書を置いてある図書室が多い。入院患者だけに貸出したり閲覧のみの図書室が増え、誰にでも貸出ている図書室は減少した。(45%→39%)(2) 予算措置されている図書室は増えているが、いまだ63%は予算がなく寄贈図書に頼っている。(3) 司書が関与している図書室は少なく(25%)、ボランテアが運営している図書室が多い。(4) 大学の医学部図書館と連携しているのは18%である。(5) 公共図書館との連携も79%が行なっていないが、図書室によっては積極的に交流している。4. 考察(1) 一部を除く多くの図書室は、十分な医療・健康情報の提供がなされていない。(2) 別の調査報告等では、公共図書館では積極的に「医療・健康情報」を収集し市民へ提供しているので、公共図書館との連携が今後は必要と思われる。
