研究の目的:1・2年生における動物飼育の効果に着目したカリキュラム開発を行うことである。特に、ポニーの飼育・乗馬活動等において小学校低学年児にもたらす効果を明らかにしようとした。研究の方法:小学校1年生・2年生においてポニーの飼育を行い、その中で1・2年生のポニーとのかかわり方の違いや効果等を比較し、1・2年生を通したポニー飼育のカリキュラム(生活科等にも転用可能)を開発する。研究の成果:前年(平成18年度)の2年生総合単元活動(1)においてポニーの飼育を実践した。その中で、初めはポニーを怖がる子もいたが、ポニーの従順さを実感すると子どもたちは、ポニーと親密にかかわるようになり、ふれ合うだけでなく実際に乗馬ができるという効果を最大限に生かし、乗馬を自分たちの遊びの一部にし楽しむ姿が見られた。また、乗馬や引き馬(人をポニーに乗せてあげる)技術が高まると、自分たちが乗馬をして楽しむだけではなく、隣のクラス・学校の他学年の人・家庭や地域の人までも乗せてあげたいと願い、活動を広げていった。今年度(平成19年度)は科学研究費の補助をいただき1年生でのポニー飼育を実践し、前年度の2年生の子どもの姿との比較を行った。初めのポニーに対する抵抗感は2年生以上に1年生は大きかった。しかし、外部講師の働き掛けもあり、1年生であってもすぐにポニーとは親密にかかわるようになっていった。ただし、2年生との大きな違いは、2年生では他者(人)も乗せてあげたいと他者とのかかわりを望んだのに対して、1年生段階ではまだまだ自分たちが乗馬して楽しみたいという意識が強かったということである。これは、発達段階として生じたのか対象児が2年生では30人だったの対して、1年生は42人であったという一人一人のかかわりの時間の違いから生じたことなのかははっきりしなかった。しかし、いずれにしてもクラス40人に対しては飼育のポニーの数は2頭は必要であったように考える。2年間の実践において、1・2年生の特性を考えてのポニー飼育を中核としてカリキュラムができあがった。今後機会があれば、このカリキュラムを評価・改善し、よりよいものにしていきたいと考えている。※(1) 上越教育大学附属小学校では、独自の教育課程によって1〜3年生に総合単元活動を設定している。1・2年生の総合単元活動においては、生活科・図工のすべてと国語・算数・体育の内容の一部を総合単元の中に組み入れて活動として組織している。
