脳性麻痺、寝たきり状態、自閉症など、障がい者のパノラマ撮影は困難であり、これを容易にするため、特性の補助具を製作し臨床応用することを目的に研究を計画した。まず、頚椎を含め背中を前方に押す機能を持つ車椅子接続型補助具を製作した。しかし、顎の位置づけとともに、被検者の肩、補助具、車椅子のハンドルが撮影装置の運動機構を妨げないよう調整するには多くの労力と時間を要した。そこで、頬をはさみ込むようなU型の顎当て構造の補助具を考案し、これを撮影装置側に取り付ける形とした。これにより調整時間は2～3分に短縮できることがわかり、事前のシミュレーションを重ねた上で、実際の撮影に応用した。撮影する機会、日常業務による制約、同意を得る手続きの問題などから、充分な臨床例の蓄積には至らなかったが、脳性麻痺、寝たきり状態、精神遅滞等の患者さんに対し、大きな問題なくパノラマ撮影が可能となり、従来と比較して効率の大幅な向上や患者さん・介護者の負担の軽減が図られた。得られたパノラマX線写真は良好で、臨床医からも有用と評価された。
