项目摘要

本研究では近代贈位論の確立に向けた基礎的作業として、近代贈位秩序の形成過程を明らかにすることを目的に、史料の調査・収集と分析を以下のとおりおこなった。1、国立公文書館所蔵の贈位関係史料の調査・収集。ここでは、(1)公文録・公文類聚および叙位裁可書から政府内の贈位決定過程の分析(主に明治期を対象とした)、(2)贈位内申書のうち愛知県および九州地方の内申書を重点的に収集・分析、また(3)諸雑公文書から裁可には至らなかった贈位請願書を抽出。以上から、贈位の請願段階から審議にいたる内容分析をおこない、南朝「忠臣」の基準となった楠正成、維新の源流とされた高山彦九郎と蒲生君平、西郷隆盛・藤田東湖・佐久間象山・吉田松陰から始まる維新前後の国事尽力者、国家に裨益し功績顕著なる者の先駈けとなった佐藤信淵・林子平、藩祖贈位の濫觴である徳川義直など、各分野での画期となる贈位事例を明らかにした。2、一地域の事例として足助重範贈位運動に関する史料と文献の調査・収集。(1)愛知県豊田市の足助資料館所蔵の足助神社文書および(2)自治体誌・伝記などの関連文献の収集・分析から、明治期には三河の一体性を表象する「偉人」として足助重範の贈位運動が展開したことを明らかにした。足助神社文書は昭和戦前期のものも多数現存しているので、次に昭和期の贈位運動の特徴を明らかにし明治期との比較検討に取り組みたいと思っている。
