小学校では、学習指導要領に示されているとおり、「正しく整った文字を書く」学習を行っている。しかし、各教科書をよく見るとわずかなながら字形が違うものがあり、書き手(指導者・児童)によっても違いが見られる。しかし、その違いの理由は明確でない。本研究は、この課題を明らかにし、書写の歴史的な変遷をたどりながら、字形の体系化を図ろうとするものである。まず、現在使われている国語・書写の教科書から「ひらがな・カタカナ・漢字」の字形の一覧の作成を試みた。次に、明治・大正・昭和・平成期における教科書や書写資料などから抽出文字の比較を試みた。そして、現場の指導者のアンケート等を実施した。膨大な資料の中から字形の整理に時間がかかり、わずかな違いは見つかっているものの、大きな違いを見つけるにはいたっていない。また、教科書の多くは、字形を許容範囲内で扱っており、字形が一貫して同型の文字を用いている教科書もあった。また、予定していた、書家や教科書執筆者の思考・背景などの分析、書写指導の現場の様子についてもさらに多くのデータが必要であり、次年度研究へ持ち越した。学校現場では、教科書に依拠しつつ、独自の指導方法を工夫しているところもあった。書道には、基本字形を忠実に表現する方法と、内面的表現を重視する方法がある。さらに、地域で独自に編み出された指導方法もある。さらに研究を深めたい。
