项目摘要

本研究の究極的な目的は、多くの野猿公園が共有する増えすぎた猿個体数に起因する諸問題(周辺地域の農作物被害や森林への食害)の解決に役立てるため、ニホンザルにおける栄養状態と繁殖成績との関係及びその年齢変化を明らかにすることであり、今年度の目的は研究代表者がすでに分析結果を得ている高崎山の餌付けニホンザル群(大分県大分市)での結果を補完あるいは比較のため、幸島の餌付けニホンザル群(宮崎県串間市)における体重・体長・出産成績のデータを収集もしくは借用し、分析することであった。2010年8月に写真計測法を用いて幸島ニホンザルメス個体の体長計測を行い、2008年8月に研究代表者が同じ方法によって収集した体長データと比較し、個体ごとに2年間の増減を分析した。また、京都大学野生動物研究センター幸島観察所から(体長計測個体に限定して)出生以降の体重及び出産成績資料を借用して個体ごとの年齢変化を分析した。以上の結果を高崎山ニホンザル餌付け群での結果と比較し、次の結果を得た。1.高崎山のメスは15歳頃まで体長が伸長し、その後は20歳以降の老齢期になってもほとんど短縮を示さないが、幸島のメスは高崎山よりも早い10歳頃に体長の伸長が完了し、老齢期においては短縮する傾向が示唆された。2.高崎山メスの体重は18歳頃から急激に減少するが、幸島メスの体重は老齢期における明瞭な減少は認められなかった。3.高崎山メスは6歳で初産を経験する個体が多く、23歳までは高い出産率を示すが、幸島メスは初産年齢が高崎山より約2歳遅く、22歳以降の出産率は0%であった。また、11歳を除くすべての年齢で幸島メスの方が高崎山メスよりも低い出産率を示した。出産可能な年齢が高崎山よりも幸島で短く、ほとんどの年齢で幸島の方が低出産率を示したことは、幸島の方が給餌量が少ないことに起因していると推測される。その一方で、老齢期における減少パターンが、体長と体重の間で、かつ2群の間で異なる傾向が示唆されたことは全く新しい知見であり、群れの保護管理においても、また動物の生活史研究においても非常に興味深い発見である。今後標本数を増やし、より詳しい分析を行うことで、要因の解明を進める必要がある。
