1.研究目的石川県能登地方の草木塔類似石造物の調査・研究を行うとともに、環境保全のシンボル的なモニュメントである石碑「草木の心」の環境教育教材としての活用方策を検討する。2.研究方法(1)草木塔類似の石造物の調査能登地方を口能登、中能登、奥能登に区分し、草木塔および、草木塔類似の石造物の調査を行った。草木塔および類似の石造物が設置されていそうな場所をWebで検索し、曹洞宗、天台宗の寺院等を抽出した。口能登、中能登の寺院は、原則として直接訪問し、聞き取り調査を行った。訪問できなかった寺院については、電話、メールで問合せ調査を行った。奥能登では、電話、メールでの問合せと、金沢大学能登半島里山・里海駐村員に調査を依頼した。(2)「草木塔」類似の石碑「草木の心」の環境教育へ活用方策の検討金沢大学創立五十周年記念館「角間の里」脇に設置した「草木塔」類似の石碑「草木の心」を用いた環境教育用プログラムを研究・開発した。なお、石碑「草木の心」の除幕式が平成23年11月24日に挙行された。「角間の里」に草木塔の資料を置き、訪れる人達に感想を募っている。平成23年度の成果を発表するとともに、北陸における草木塔の周知を図るため、3月14日に金沢市に於いて「草木塔セミナー」を開催した。3.研究結果・今回の調査において、能登地方における「草木塔」類似の石造物を発見することは出来なかったが、石造物存在の可能性は否定できないため、地元住民の協力を仰ぎ、今後も調査を継続する。・石碑「草木の心」という具体的な教材が得られたため、今後、角間の里山をフィールドとして活動する幼・小・中・高、大学生たちを対象とした具体的な環境教育、情操教育を実践する。・「草木塔セミナー」には、北陸を中心に約70名が参加し、「草木塔」に関する関心が徐々に高まりつつあることが示唆された。
