AR教材は操作を伴うことで体感を通した理解を促進したり, 現実世界の情報量を増やすことで理解を促進したりする効果があることが明らかになっている(小松ら, 科学教育研究, 37(4), pp. 307-316, 2013.)。これらARの特長を生かすことで, 「凸レンズの働き」についても効果が期待できると考え, 教材の開発を進めた。この単元では, 凸レンズによってできる像の位置や大きさ, 向きについての規則性を見いださせる。この際, 光の道筋を作図することを通して規則性の理解を促すが, この作図はできるが規則性は理解できないという報告が多数なされている。この「凸レンズの働き」を学習する際の課題について, AR技術の特長を活かした教材によって解決を図った。具体的には, 生徒が実験する装置である光学台をウェブカメラで撮影すると装置画像上に光の道筋や像が重畳表示される教材を開発した。また、このAR教材を用いた授業実践を行い, 生徒が「凸レンズの働き」を理解していく過程を明らかにした。これら研究成果から, 従来の「凸レンズの働き」の単元での学習では, 実験や実験から導き出せる規則性と関係を持った作図能力が備わっていないことが問題であることが示唆された。AR教材は, その点について効果があることが明らかになった。AR教材を使わない学習についても, 作図を学習する際に, いかに実験との関係性を考察させるか, またそのような活動を仕組んでいけるかが重要である。このようにAR教材開発の道筋をつけることができたことで, 今後, デジタル教科書などのソフト面での充実に寄与できると考える。
