まず、提案しているガ-ベジコレクション方式の、例えばオペレーティングシステムのスケジューリングとの兼ね合いのような、理論上の考察では洞察し得ない問題の発見や、それらの解決のために、Pentiumプロセッサ2個から成る密結合マルチプロセッサマシンを構成し、提案しているアルゴリズムの実機での検証や虫取りや調整を行なった。ここでは、最終的な性能評価を実施するターゲットマシンと同じオペレーティングシステムであるSolaris2.4を用いることによって、後々のプログラムコードの移植作業を省く工夫をした。上記の結果、プロセッサ内のキャシュメモリの容量が印付けの性能に影響を与えることが判明したので、以下のようなより大容量の高速キャツシュメモリを有する密結合マルチプロセッサマシン3機種を用いて、性能評価を行なった。1.2プロセッサ構成のPentiumPRO/150MHz機(本研究の予算で製作した。)2.2プロセッサ構成のSS20-612相当機3.8プロセッサ構成のSPARC SERVER1000結果的に、プロセッサ台数が少ない場合でも比較的多い場合でも提案する方式が従来の印付けと回収を直列的に実施する方式に比べて、高い回収効率を発揮することが示された。(結果は2編の論文にまとめて、投稿中である。)ここで得られた成果は、Javaのようなマルチスレッドを支援し、かつリアルタイム性が望まれるプログラミング言語の実現のためにおおいに貢献するであろう。
