本年度前半においては、昨年度に引き続き当初の「研究計画」における(1)「宋代の思想的、社会的状況について記録した文献を広く網羅的に収集、整理する」作業、および、(2)「(1)の文献群の中から、「公共教育」制度の実態について言及する例、および思想家・政治家たちが「公共教育」制度について論議した例を拾い出しにカードに取る」作業を実施し、また後半においては、(3)「(2)のカード情報をまとめて、コンピュータ入力しデータベース化する」作業を実施したが、昨年度における作業の遅れが響き、結局のところ、現在までに整理し得た資料は、当初の予定の半分程度の分量に止まった。ただし整理し得た資料のうちには、宋代の思想家による科挙制度の見直しによる官吏選抜制度の公正化といった具体的制度論から、よりプリミティブな教育の原理に関する議論などまでが見出された。こうした例のうち、北宋を代表する思想家として程頤を、南宋を代表する思想家として朱熹を取り上げ、それぞれの伝統中国における教育論に関する基本文献である『大学』についての解釈(特に「格物」理論と教育論との関わり)や、『論語』の「克己復礼」の解釈に反映された教育論、「経」「権」についての論議に反映された教育論などについて比較検討を加えた。この結果、程頤が教育・修養の基本に「自然性」を置く (すなわち、精神の修養によって自己に備わった天理が「自発的」に覚醒する、という考えである。)のに対し、朱熹はそこに「規範」を置く (すなわち、精神的修養は天理の発現の条件の一つに過ぎず、礼儀作法等の外面的「規範」を修めて始めて天理が実現される、という考えである。この「規範」習得の場として彼は「小学」という小児教育の機関をも構想している。)、といった特徴が見出された。なお、当初念頭にあった王安石と朱熹との比較研究や、今回取り上げた両名以外の例の分析に関しては今後の課題としたい。
