项目摘要

当該研究によって選られた新たな知見は,およそ以下の通り。1 「効率的身体」の発明は,昨年度の研究で判明した諸々の文学作品にくわえて,モダン・バレエ振付家ジョージ・バラニシンの1930年代作品においても同様に観察され,こうした効率的身体の美学なく,モダン・バレエの誕生はありえなかった。2 優生学はけっしてナチスによってのみ推進された特殊な運動ではなく,政治体制や地域的限定を超えて,20世紀世界のいたるところで見出されるものであった。のみならず,それはナチスにおけるホロコースト同様,独裁的支配者から被支配者の大衆へと服従的に強いられたものでは,けっしてなかった。3 優生学において頂点をきわめる効率的身体の探究は,美的探究とけっして分離されるものではなく,効率的身体をめぐる美意識は,文学や美術,また大衆娯楽やジャーナリズムをふくむ,20世紀初頭のあらゆる身体の表象行為において発見することができる。4 現在の視点から眺めた場合,いささか奇異に映る身体をめぐる当時の意識が,地域を超え,政治体制を超え,さらには階級を越えて,つまりあらゆる領域を超えて偏在し,人々のごく日常的意識のなかに深く浸透した思考であったという歴史的事実は,従来の「支配と服従」といった一方的な権力の力学の再考を迫るものであった。
